When James McKay receives a letter from his estranged family in the South, he decides to make the long journey back home to settle their differences. Little does he know that his journey would be anything but easy and his destination would be filled with taking sides in a long-standing feud between the McKay and Canfield families.
The Canfields and McKays had been feuding for decades; a feud that started over a pig. And as fate would have it, James was a McKay and falls in love with a Canfield, Rose. Their love story made matters worse, as it was now a matter of clan honour. James and Rose decided to run away and got caught in the middle of the feud.
James was chased down by the Canfields, who were seeking revenge, which meant death for him because he was a McKay. But the canfield family had a moral code, one that wouldn’t see even their greatest foe killed in cold blood inside their home. James sought refuge in their home, and that became his salvation because they had to protect him in their home from the wrath of the McKays that were set to spill blood.
For Rose, it was a tough decision to make – who to side with – her family, or the man she loved. The feud had taken too much from the families, and Rose was determined to find a way to bring peace.
While society had enveloped the McKays against the Canfields and vice versa, Rose and James both knew that they needed to do something to end the feud and bring their families together, even though it looked impossible.
As James nursed his wounds, Rose visited him in secret, and they started making their plans. James knew that the feud had caused too much destruction and bloodshed, and he wanted to see an end to it.
They both agreed that they needed a powerful ally – someone who could mediate between the feuding parties. In steps, a travelling preacher who miraculously brings laughter and sunshine wherever he goes.
As the preacher gets closer to the Canfields, he becomes the target of the Mc Kays, who wanted to get him out of the way to continue with their feud. James manages to save the preacher from the McKays’ wrath, and he agrees to help them bring about peace between the two families.
Together they go back to the Canfields and propose their plan for peace. It is agreed that James can leave safely as long as he comes back unarmed to the Canfields in a year’s time to become Rose’s husband.
The news of peace quickly spreads throughout the valley, and both families are able to live together in harmony. James and Rose become the catalysts for realigning family values and bestowing unto each other respect and dignity. Their love for each other had won, allowing the Canfields and McKays to mend the broken fences and focus on what mattered.
The winter seems to have brought with it a new beginning, a new era. The valley was serene, the sun smiling, and the sky blue. The birds were chirping, and the beauty of nature was breathing new life into the soul. It was a remarkable feeling of peace, and the valley and its people relished it.
Finally, James and Rose get married in a country setting, a wedding that brought the two families together. The attendees wore their best, and the whole valley was invited to celebrate.
The feast was a testimony that peace was there to stay, dished out with love and kindness. James’s journey may have been dangerous, but it was worth it when he found his true love and brought peace to two long-standing bitter enemies.
