In a barren Icelandic landscape, lies a small village where residents live a remote and rustic lifestyle. It was in this village that a notorious outlaw named Eyvindur took refuge. Despite his notorious reputation, he was known to be a kind and peaceful man. The villagers, however, were sceptical of his intentions and regarded him with suspicion and fear.
One day, an independent and headstrong woman named Halla comes to the village to visit her sister. Her sister was married to one of the villagers and had started a family. Unbeknownst to Halla, her sister had recently passed away, and her brother-in-law had asked for her help in raising his children.
As Halla settles into this new life, she soon meets Eyvindur. She quickly realises that beneath his rugged exterior lies a gentle spirit. The two quickly start to form a bond and find comfort in each other’s company. The villagers, however, are hostile towards Eyvindur and do not approve of Halla’s relationship with him.
One day, Eyvindur reveals to Halla that he has been on the run for several years and that he is wanted for murder. The news shocks Halla, but she chooses to stand by Eyvindur regardless. They decide to leave the village and embark on a new life together in the Icelandic wilderness.
As they travel deeper into the wilderness, they realise that they are being pursued by the villagers who fear that Eyvindur may harm them. This was not their only concern, as they encounter dangerous wildlife, unforgiving terrain and harsh weather conditions. Despite all the challenges, they never lose sight of their love for each other.
As they begin to establish a life of their own, they are confronted with a new dilemma. It becomes evident that they need the help of others to survive during the harsh winter months. They seek out a nearby farm, run by an elderly man named Arnes. Arnes, at first, is suspicious of Eyvindur and Halla but soon realises that their intentions are pure. Arnes chooses to help them, and they form a new family unit.
However, their new-found happiness is short-lived, as a group of hunters discovers their location. The hunters were hired by the local villagers to capture Eyvindur and bring him back to the village. The hunters cruelly shoot Arnes, killing him, and severely wound Eyvindur.
Despite his injuries, Eyvindur manages to kill most of the hunters, but he knows that more will come, and they will not be able to survive this winter without help. In his dying breath, he asks Halla to seek out his estranged family for help. He reveals to her that he is the son of a wealthy landowner and has been disowned by his family for pursuing a life of crime.
Halla, with no knowledge of her surroundings, sets out to find Eyvindur’s family, and on her journey, she finds herself catapulted into a whole new world. She encounters a range of colourful characters and becomes embroiled in a complex web of family rivalries and land disputes.
With Eyvindur’s family’s help, Halla returns to the wilderness to help Eyvindur recover. Unfortunately, their reunion is short-lived, as the hunters return, intent on capturing Eyvindur once more. In an epic final showdown, Halla and Eyvindur fight for their survival and for the chance to live a life together.
As the story draws to a close, Halla and Eyvindur are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. The harshness of their experiences has left them scarred, but their love for each other remains unbroken.
